Deck Cadet (Papua New Guinea)

VAK-Deck-Cadets.jpgCan you share with us about your thoughts and experience as a Deck Cadet?

It is a privilege to serve as a Deck Cadet on board SPO’s vessels. The first vessel I joined was the Pacific Duchess in March this year. I was amazed as prior to her, the biggest boat I had ever been on was only 34 metres in length. I was impressed not only by her monstrosity but also by the vessel’s technology and the effective up-keep of the safety culture on board. I could go on about the valuable things I have learnt throughout my time on board but at the end of each day, I reckon that safety has always been of paramount significance in SPO.

It has only been a week and counting since signing on to her sister vessel, the Pacific Valkyrie where I have settled in well, but I am sure that my three-month contract here will be put to good use. I have accumulated a great deal of knowledge which I will fully utilise in my role as a Deck Cadet and perhaps, a Junior Officer in the near future. Thank you!
