SPO launches online training courses by Swire Marine Training Centre and Swire Emergency Response

SPO is pleased to announce the launch of the following online training courses. Members of SSA and MPA staff members can enjoy special discounted rates.

(A) Swire Marine Training Centre (STMC)

Dynamic Positioning Awareness Course

SPO’s flagship training centre, SMTC has developed a foundation course for personnel who want a basic understanding of Dynamic Positioning (DP), including the advantages and limitations of DP and the concept of redundancy. Upon completion of this course, attendees should have a basic knowledge of a DP system and its component parts, an understanding of the benefits and limitations of DP control and the concept of redundancy. No previous experience or prerequisite is required to attend this course. This course is delivered in English and the maximum course capacity is 4, minimum 1. The number of participants has intentionally been kept to a maximum of 4 to allow attendees the opportunity to interact with and ask the Instructor questions.

(B) Swire Emergency Response

OPRC Level 3 (IMO Level 3 equivalent) – Oil Spill Response Training

Accredited by The Nautical Institute, this course aims to provide participants with a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of senior personnel in the management of oil spills that are of national significance. The course will also highlight common challenges faced during a major spill. Participants will learn the importance of working together to identify issues through discussions with specialists and how to develop a process for a national coordinated/integrated response to manage a major spill.

Emergency Response and Crisis Management

This course addresses the difference between an Emergency Response and a Crisis and how these can be effectively managed. It focuses on the important relationship between an Emergency Management Team and Crisis Management Team within an organisation. The course guides delegates through the processes of managing emergencies and crises and looks at team make up and the leadership of these teams. Human factors and relative response are looked at in detail as well as well as Media and Social Media response.

Introduction to Crisis Management

This course provides a high-level overview of the various aspects of managing a crisis through the various phases, including the importance of pre planning and the all-important return to normality. It introduces the organisation and make up of an effective Crisis Management Team, in addition to introducing the qualities required to make effective members of a Crisis Management Team.
